HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!

Happy Birthday! Thank you for being the best Daddy and Husband ever. Sorry for this post, I know you won't enjoy it, but I think you should know how much we love you and appreciate all that you do for us! We hope it's the best day ever. We are so glad we get to spend it with you.

Celebrity resemblance...

We never reached a consensus on which of us our baby looks like.  Personally I think the baby looks more and more like me every day, but Meg disagrees.  Which is weird because before we had him Meg always said she wanted to have a little boy that looked like me.  Since we can't come to a resolution on which one of us Hawkes looks like, I figured maybe we should look into his celebrity resemblances.

Religious experimentation...

Meg has been doing a lot of soul searching lately.  Having a new baby changes your perspective on life.  Meg has decided to look into islam and just see what it would be like to live under a burka.  This is how I often find her when we are in public and the baby is hungry.

Hawkes is getting so fun.  He is more alert and interacts more with every day.  He will follow my face and make sounds and sometimes even smile when I do things.  But one of my favorite things is to come home from work, lay on the couch, and let the baby sleep on my chest.

I love how much this kids loves his tongue. He has been doing this since the second he was born. I gave him some tummy time the other day and all he was interested in was licking the blanket. I am guessing I will be in trouble once he learns some coordination and can get things into his mouth on his own.

Now here are a few more shots from the beginning of out little guy with his favorite toy.

Isn't this the best

Meg posted this, but I thought I should add some captions so you can understand the thought progression.

"...ooh, lights..."
"...lights are kind of boring..."

"...ooh, person holding camera..."

"...ooh, a pretty lady holding camera..."
"...wait, mommy holding camera..."

"...MOMMY!!!"

Happy Birthday Little Buddy!

So out little guy is one month old today. Can you believe it? I certainly can't. It has gone by so fast. Here are a few things that I have enjoyed up until now.
*The cute noises he makes (including the grunts and even when they keep me up all night long)
*I think he is finally seeing me and able to focus a little better
*That he follows mine and his daddy's voices
*His chubby cheeks (I could smooch them all day long)
*That he will hold my hand in the car as I try to keep his pacifier in his mouth (It's worth my arm falling asleep for the entire ride)
*That he likes my singing (not many people do)
He has been an absolute joy and wonderful addition to our little family! I think we will keep him. And of course this post would not be complete without some new photos. I know that's what you all really want to see.

Date Night

So, H. Ray went on his first date last night.  He was really nervous to impress his date.  As his father, I felt it was my responsibility to have a sit down talk with him.  We talked about not kissing on the first date, showing respect for women, and how to act like you are listening when they talk, even if you aren't.  Like all children, he wasn't convinced his parents actually knew what they were talking about, but he used his newly learned skill of nodding and saying uh-huh to make me think he was listening, even though I don't think he was.

Next, mom got him in the tub to make sure he smelled fresh for his date.  In spite of his talk with dad, he still felt so nervous that he ended up pooping in the tub.

After getting out of the tub and drying off, Hawkes got bundled up so he could get warm.

Once he was all cleaned up and dressed, Hawkes went to meet Quinn.  She was born two days before Hawkes, but I told him not to let that worry him, and that all the cool kids date older girls.  At first they were a little shy (probably because their parents were watching their every move)...

...but before long they were sitting on the same side of the couch and couldn't keep their hands off of each other.

Special Delivery

I have been meaning to post about this for weeks, but when the success of your day is measured by if you got a shower or not, you don't always get around to everything. Our little guy received this perfect addition to his nursery in the mail! Isn't it the cutest thing ever? We all love it and it looks darling above his rocker. He is so lucky to have his Grandma Judi and Aunt Molly to spoil him rotten! Thank you again and we love you guys.

Holiday Activities

H. Ray loved hanging out with his aunts over the holiday...but...

...that was before he witnessed this.  He may never enjoy dancing again.

As you can see below, H. Ray's first New Year celebration started off being quite an exciting night.

As the night progressed, things just continued to get more and more exciting.  At first Hawkes thought our building was collapsing, but it turned out to just be the downtown fireworks.  He really enjoyed watching them from our window.
